An Electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a medical test that records the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time. It uses small electrode patches attached to the skin of the chest, arms, and legs. The EKG machine records the heart’s electrical activity, typically as a line tracing on paper, showing waves and lines that represent each heartbeat.
